PowerGrid To Raise Rs.3,000 Cr. Via Bond Sale

(RTTNews) - PowerGrid Corporation Of India, the central transmission utility, would raise Rs.3,000 crore through sale of bonds by January next year, reported the media quoting its Director of Finance J.Sridharan on the sidelines of Economic Editor's Conference at New Delhi.
The company is also seeking loans for Rs.8,750 crore from World Bank and Asian Development Bank to finance the transmission projects in the country. It has sent a proposal for the same to the Finance Ministry through Power Ministry, to hold talks with the lending agencies.
During the current five year plan (2007-12), the company plans to invest Rs.55,000 crore to set up transmission lines. It intends to increase its transmission capacity to 23,400 MW in the current fiscal from the existing 19,800 MW and to raise it to 37,000 MW within the plan period.
